Paul Mbera was one of the two people shot dead in Kangemi on Monday, July 7, during the Saba Saba protests.

His wife was in unimaginable pain after his death on the fateful day that saw several people killed and others injured.

She was summoned to Eagle Nursing Home to view the body of her husband, who lost his life that heartbreaking day.

Mbera’s wife was too weak to speak clearly as she struggled to come to terms with the death of her husband.

“He had stepped out to go to the shop to buy airtime when he was shot and died on the spot,” she cried.

She could barely walk due to the grief, and medical personnel had to help her take a seat as she broke down in tears.

She was joined by another woman who had also lost a close family member and could not hold back her sobs.

Elvis Musavi also lost his life during the chaotic maandamano, leaving his family in deep pain and sorrow.

Musavi was on his way home when he was allegedly shot by police officers. Like Mbera, he died on the spot.

His mother was inconsolable as she bitterly wept and mourned her son, whom she had spent time with earlier that morning.

She painfully recalled the last words they shared before his death — a moment that also left his wife widowed.

“He left home in the morning for work. I had begged him to return early because of the protests. Unfortunately, he was killed on his way back home,” she tearfully said.

Musavi's wife in tears after husband's death

Musavi’s wife accompanied her mother-in-law to the hospital after being summoned to identify the body.

Her pain was evident as she refused to be consoled, mourning the man she described as the love of her life, who had now left her with a heavy burden to carry.

“He has left me with a six-month-old baby,” she cried, collapsing to the ground before a medical officer helped her up and sat her on a plastic chair.

How many people were killed in Saba Saba protests?

In another development, the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) confirmed that at least 10 people were killed during the Saba Saba protests.

According to their report, over 30 others were seriously injured and are receiving medical attention.

Police barricades and road closures also severely disrupted transport services, leaving many stranded and paralyzing movement across affected areas.
