Milka, a single mother, is appealing for assistance to educate her son, months after he completed his high school education.

Enoch Odhiambo sat for his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) in 2024 and performed admirably well.

The young man scored a mean grade of A plain, a result strong enough to earn him direct admission to the university.

Which high school did Odhiambo attend?

“Former Kisumu Boys bright but needy student pleads for help from well-wishers to join Kisii University to pursue medicine,” read the text in the now-viral TikTok video.

Odhiambo stood silently next to his mother, who opened up about her struggles while pleading for support.

She held her son’s KCSE certificate, a painful reminder of the opportunity she couldn’t afford for him.

“He is my firstborn son, but it has been difficult for me to take him to university. I’ve been a single mum for the past 10 years and I’m a hawker. I have no means to take him to school. I’m pleading with well-wishers and anyone else who can help me educate my son. It’s not easy for me,” she said, pausing to cry.

Odhiambo's mum wipes tears while making plea

Milka tapped her towering son’s shoulder as she looked down, trying to hide her sorrow.

She wiped her tears with one hand while clutching her son’s high school certificate with the other.

Odhiambo stood still, almost emotionless, avoiding eye contact with his mother, who was clearly broken by her son’s plight.

“Please help me. My son wants to go to school. He wants to learn. I am asking all Kisumu people and all Kenyans, whoever can help me, please do. I am praying all of you,” she pleaded.

Which university was Odhiambo to join?

Milka explained that her earnings as a hawker are very little, and that’s why she is appealing to well-wishers.

Odhiambo echoed his mother’s words calmly as he urged Kenyans to come to his rescue.

“I have not been able to join university because of various challenges, especially school fees. I plead with well-wishers who can see me to help. We are asking for your support because we cannot help ourselves.
"I was called to Kisii University to pursue a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery,” he explained.
