"My sister and I have always had conflicts. It’s not just between the two of us, my brother has also been involved. There has always been sibling rivalry between my sister and us. I remember another time I came across WhatsApp chats between her and my husband. She had sent him an emoji, which made me curious.
I opened their chats and saw how she was badmouthing me to my husband. She was telling him things about me. However, even my husband was not responding to everything she was writing. He was avoiding commenting on what I would term just gossip," she shared.

The feud eventually involved their children as the conflict got out of hand, with Irene and her son Edwin being on the receiving end.

"I was told I was needed at home as something had happened. It involved my son and his cousin. I was not given many details, but I was told my presence was needed immediately. I was worried about what had happened. I prepared myself and travelled.
When I arrived, it was my mother who narrated to me what had happened. Something was not right. I did not, for once, imagine my son being capable of acting inappropriately towards his cousin. It became a big issue that I tried to solve, but there was no solution," she said.

Wairimu accompanies family to Mukurwe-ini Police Station

It was not long before Edwin was arrested after the issue escalated to the relevant authorities at Mukurwe-ini Police Station.

However, one police officer was not convinced by the narration and called Wairimu aside to have a word with her.

"He told me to try to resolve the matter with the family as he did not buy into it. I was convinced my sister had something to do with it. She has always been fighting me, having issues with me, and whenever I confronted her daughter, she warned me not to question her kid.

We left the station and agreed to set a date where we could discuss and settle our differences, as advised by the police. We all agreed, but my sister and my mum, who was on her side at the time, went behind my back," she said.

How has Wairimu been affected by her son's imprisonment?

Her son was kept in the cell for a week before being taken to court, where he was given a life sentence.

Irene could not begin to comprehend the loneliness she experiences due to her son's sentencing.

"I can barely sleep. I want to be alone at all times. Whenever I see kids my son's age, I feel terrible knowing that I cannot access him. It all started from a grudge with my sister. I tried to sort things with her, but I later found out she had blocked me. I am so stressed and broken," she said.
