1. Kelvin Kiptum

On February 11, 2024, the world was shaken by the news that world marathon record holder Kelvin Kiptum had died in a tragic car crash along the Eldoret-Kaptagat road.

Kiptum, aged just 24, was driving a Toyota Premio when the accident happened.

He and his coach both died on the spot.

In 2023, the rising star shattered the world marathon record by clocking an astonishing 2:00:35 at the Chicago Marathon, breaking Eliud Kipchoge’s previous time by 34 seconds.

2. KK Mwenyewe

On Monday, July 14, popular comedian KK Mwenyewe, real name Zakaria Kariuki, passed away.

KK was best known for his hilarious and spot-on impersonations of former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua.

His close friend revealed that KK died in his arms at Kiambu Level 5 Hospital while waiting for treatment.

The comedian had battled a recurring stomach complication for years.

3. Tabitha Gatwiri

Content creator Tabitha Gatwiri died on October 31, 2024.

At the time, she was 29 and was reportedly found dead in her home.

Tabitha was loved for her funny videos and lively spirit, which helped her gain a loyal following online.

Her burial was filled with emotion, as fans and fellow celebrities paid their last respects.

4. Brian Chira

TikToker Brian Chira died in a tragic hit-and-run on March 16, 2024.

The 23-year-old was hit by a speeding car while crossing the road late at night, according to police.

His sudden death deeply affected many people, especially on TikTok, where he was a fan favourite.

5. Alice Wairimu

On April 20, 2025, Kenyans were stunned by news of the passing of actress Alice Wairimu, widely known by her on-screen name, Alicia Nimo.

She was best known for her role as a student in the hit show Tahidi High, and her career had just begun to take off.

Media reports indicated that the actress collapsed and died suddenly.

Emotional tributes poured in from fellow actors and fans alike, all honouring her memory.

She was in her mid twenties when she died.

6. E-Sir

Legendary rapper E-Sir, born Issah Mmari, died on March 16, 2003.

He passed away in a tragic road accident while returning to Nairobi from a concert in Nakuru in the company of his crew and even singer Nameless.
