Back in 2013, Mulee was serving as the Harambee Stars’ technical director when the team lifted the CECAFA title and received about KSh 2 million from then-President Uhuru Kenyatta. The money was shared among nearly 30 players and the coaching staff.
Reflecting on recent developments, Mulee observed that President William Ruto’s pledge of financial rewards could encourage budding talent across the country.
He explained that such gestures give rural boys confidence to chase football professionally. Mulee even recalled being told of someone who picked up the sport after hearing of the incentives, though they were already past the playing age.
What did Mulee say about McCarthy?
Mulee expressed confidence in the national team and coach Benni McCarthy.
“I was not worried when we met the Democratic Republic of Congo. I was a bit worried about the second game against Angola because they are the COSAFA champions and have qualified for the African Cup of Nations. Kenya has performed very well.

Did Ruto influence the VAR decision in CHAN?

In other news, a lighthearted video from Tanzanian fans went viral, jokingly accusing Ruto of interfering with the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) during the Kenya vs Angola CHAN 2024 match held on Thursday, August 7.
The humorous claims followed a controversial moment when VAR disallowed a late goal by Angola, allowing Kenya to secure a draw. Angola had taken an early lead, but Kenya equalised through a penalty awarded after a VAR review. Later in the match, a Kenyan player was sent off after another VAR intervention, leaving Harambee Stars to play with 10 men.
Tensions rose in the final minutes when Angola appeared to score a late winner, only for VAR to rule it offside. The decision frustrated Angolan supporters, while some Tanzanian fans took the opportunity to mock Kenya. In the trending clip, they jokingly claimed Ruto had been sent to influence VAR decisions, poking fun at Kenya’s narrow escape.
