Why did Moses Kuria resign?
Kuria, in his resignation statement, revealed that he had met with Ruto, who had 'graciously accepted' his decision to step down.
He cited a desire to pursue personal interests and thanked the president for the opportunity to serve in key roles, including Cabinet secretary for Investments, Trade, and Industry; Cabinet secretary for Public Service and Performance; and, most recently, senior economic advisor.
Kuria served in the Kenya Kwanza regime for nearly three years.
Ahmednasir’s tribute quickly drew reactions online, with Kenyans expressing mixed views on Kuria’s legacy.

While some applauded his boldness and contributions to the economic agenda, others criticised his controversial style and questioned the tangible impact of his tenure.

"That is sarcastic...."

"His next assignment. Ahmednasir is a friend of both Ruto and Kuria. He knows Kuria's mission. He's a decoy seeking to scuttle opposition."

"Hehe, Moses Kuria, your script is too predictable. We know you’ve just been handed a fresh mission come destabilise the Mountain with your usual ‘I’m not in government’ lullaby. Now you want us to believe you’re off to pursue personal interests? Awuoro. Next thing you’ll say, you’ve discovered bottom-up entrepreneurship in Kasarani. Why are you suddenly leaving your ‘friends’ if all was rosy? Spare us the resignation poetry, same old drama, new episode. We’ve seen this movie."

"You're a man of great character, and I wish you nothing but success in all your future endeavours. I’m confident that whatever direction you choose to take, you have what it takes to excel. All the very best, my friend MK."

"Moses Kuria is a good leader who can spearhead the national integration of the interests of the Kikuyu Nation outside the presidency."
Meanwhile, as Kuria exits the political frontline, speculation continues over his next move, with many observers suggesting he may be positioning himself for a return to active politics ahead of the 2027 elections.
Kuria had earlier hinted at vying for presidency in 2027 on a Jubilee Party ticket.
He made the remarks during a TV interview on June 22, barely weeks after showing interest in becoming the secretary general of the Jubilee party.
Although some political analysts have hinted at the possibility of Kuria joining the Opposition team, the former Trade CS has consistently ruled out working with former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua, whom he often describes as a "tribalist and divisive leader."
The other option Kuria could be considering is reviving his Chama Cha Kazi party, which he folded to join the Kenya Kwanza coalition led by President William Ruto.
Is Kuria entitled to retirement benefits?
Meanwhile, Kuria is entitled to retirement benefits under the Pensions Act following his 20-month service as a Cabinet secretary.
Having served since his appointment in September 2022, Kuria qualifies for a monthly pension equal to 80% of his salary, which stood at approximately KSh 957,000.
In addition to the pension, he will receive gratuities and allowances due to state officers. However, his role as presidential advisor does not attract retirement benefits under current public service laws.
