The demonstrations, led primarily by Gen Z activists, called for an end to police brutality and justice for victims of the 2024 anti-finance bill protests.

In the aftermath, several protesters were arrested, and many others were reported missing.

Among them is activist and IT expert Ndiangui Kinyagia, whose disappearance days before the protests has sparked public outrage.

Where is blogger Ndiangui Kinyagia?

Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Director Amin Mohamed revealed that Ndiangui had allegedly published an inflammatory post on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), in which he detailed a timetable Gen Z protesters would use to march toward State House on the day of the protests.

He denied claims that Ndiangui was in police custody, despite growing public pressure and a court summons requiring both him and Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja to either produce the blogger in court or explain his disappearance.

Shortly after Amin publicly urged Ndiangui to surrender at any police station, a man was found unconscious and bearing signs of torture, dumped by the roadside in Ruaka.

Social media users quickly circulated images of the man, claiming he resembles the missing blogger.

However, as of now, there has been no official confirmation from authorities, the blogger’s family, or medical personnel verifying the identity of the individual found.

Did the court summon DCI boss Amin Mohamed?

Justice Chacha Mwita issued orders on Tuesday, July 1, to have DCI boss Amin Mohamed appear in court in person to explain the whereabouts of Ndiangui.

The alternative was to release or produce the missing blogger in court on or before Thursday, July 3.

On Tuesday, an advocate who appeared on behalf of the DCI had a tough time trying to defend the investigative department in the matter.

At some point, a frustrated and impatient court attendant shouted him down and accused him of lying to cover up the truth.

Mulinge Muteti claimed the detectives from the DCI had abducted Ndiangui, and the advocate should not be given a chance to mislead the court with unfounded narratives.

The advocate watched silently and patiently as Muteti shouted from the back of a fully packed courtroom.

It took the intervention of court orderlies and lawyer Kibe Mungai to calm him down.
