The second in command has camped in Nakuru county for the last three days in an attempt to push back the inroads made by his predecessor, Rigathi Gachagua’s DCP.

“We want to deliver on two terms for our team here in Nakuru since we are doing a lot of development along this region, including markets, and even the Rironi-Mau Summit Highway that we are launching in less than a month,” Kindiki said.

Out of the eleven elective seats in Nakuru county, 10 are from the ruling party, while Jubilee's Samuel Arama has since declared support for the government.

Some of the MPs are serving their second term, while others, including Governor Susan Kihika and Senator Tabitha Karanja, are serving their first term.

Interestingly, since the inception of devolution in 2013, no governor or senator has served for two consecutive terms.

It is a fact that saw Kihika urge locals to break the one-term jinx, arguing that most of the legislators in the county had served for more than one term.

“Why do you always elect the governor for only one term and send them home? Will you hold my hand so that I continue serving in this position?” the county boss asked locals.

Who are the former Nakuru governors?

Kinuthia Mbugua was the first Nakuru governor, elected in 2013, but lost the seat to Lee Kinyanjui in 2017.

Kinyanjui, now the Trade Cabinet Secretary, lost to Kihika in 2022. He, however, recently hinted at making a return to Nakuru politics.

Meanwhile, National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung'wah has warned against attempts to export Mount Kenya politics to cosmopolitan counties.

He also accused Gachagua of attempting to dictate Nakuru politics.

“Gachagua should not abuse Kihika’s husband just because he wants to fight a political battle. He should leave him and the people to make their informed choice,” the Kikuyu MP said.

Previously, TUKO.co.Ke reported that Governor Kihika's re-election bid received a major boost after two MPs who had been her critics declared a ceasefire.

The two said they would support the governor's re-election bid for the sake of the unity of Nakuru county.

Kihika now enjoys the support of all elected MPs in Nakuru except Naivasha's Jayne Kihara, who is allied to DCP.
