Medscape states that compression can lead to death primarily through oxygen deprivation, which is medically referred to as asphyxia.

In some cases, when the neck is compressed, it can restrict blood flow to the brain, causing a deficiency of oxygen to the brain, which can lead to unconsciousness and ultimately death if not relieved as soon as possible.

Kitavi's body was also partially burnt when his family discovered it.

Sharleene Odoyo, the family's lawyer, stated that they are working together with investigators in their quest to obtain justice for the deceased.

"We are committed to finding justice through the proper legal channels, and we respectfully ask the public and the media to allow the legal process to run its course without undue speculation. Out of respect for the ongoing proceedings and the sensitivity of the matter, we shall not comment on the substance of the case," Odoyo said.
