Austine Onyango Wamalwa gained public attention after he was captured walking to school at 4.25 am in Rongai, Kajiado county.
A concerned motorist shared a video of the young man online, attracting widespread sympathy and calls for support.
One well-wisher, identified as Mel Wangeci Kim, travelled to meet the young student to help him.
She shared that the young man lives far from school, noting that it is a three-hour journey one way.
“This made me understand why he had to leave the house by 3am to get to school by 6am. The place is too far and the roads are not good. We met animals along the way—a clear sign of how dangerous it is,” she shared.

Where are Austine Wamalwa’s parents?
Mel told TUKO.co.ke that the boy is an orphan and has no home but is determined to pursue his education and change the course of his life for the better.
“Wamalwa really needs our help. Currently, he is hosted by one of his fellow students who lives in a single-room house. But when the boy’s father is around, Wamalwa is forced to seek alternative places to sleep,” she said.
The kind-hearted well-wisher also noted that Wamalwa sometimes goes hungry, as he has no one to care for him and no means to hustle while attending school.
