"When I woke up, I found my face completely swollen, my eye red. It was clear that I had been beaten up, but I would be lying if I said I recall anything that happened. I blacked out in my house and woke up two days later to find myself completely battered and in a pool of blood," she recounted.

The young mum said it was only by sheer luck that her child had gone to visit her mum.

"I think I was drugged, then beaten. That is why my face looks swollen. I do remember opening the house after returning from seeing off my friend. But after I opened my house, I lost my consciousness," she said.

She said the person later locked her in the house after beating her up.

What Maureen Njeri's neighbour heard on fateful night

Maureen said that earlier in the day, before she blacked out, she and her neighbour had had a disagreement about the gate, but she did not think it was a big deal.

"When I woke up on the 30th, and I was trying to figure out what had happened to me, I went and asked the neighbour if she had heard anything on the night of Sunday when I lost consciousness. She said that she heard me screaming, saying 'achana na mimi, utaniua!'. But I just want to get to the bottom of this and find out what happened," she added.

Maureen said she had reported the matter to the police, but is yet to take a P3 form.

"I was told I need to go to a public hospital for that. I haven't yet, but I went for a check-up. I am just really trying to understand all this. I want justice," she said.

The lover turned alleged killer visited the woman's home and killed her, before fleeing.

Even more heartbreaking, the woman's young son witnessed the murder.

"Her son is the one who narrated to us what happened. I urge the government to give us justice. I would urge people to just quit relationships peacefully if they are no longer working, instead of hurting anyone," the victim's sister said.
