Najma Hamis captured public attention after one of her friends and former schoolmate, Scovin Sanya, shared a clip of her selling SIM cards.
The light-hearted post by Sanya drew mixed reactions among netizens. However, the young college student clarified that Najma was fully aware he had posted the video.
“Najma knows the video is online. Even after posting it, I told her, and she is okay with it. She is my friend, and it’s not that serious,” he said.
Why did Najma Hamis turn to hustling instead of college?
Najma, proudly confirming her hustle, told TUKO.co.ke that she works hard to earn a living and support her mother and younger brother.
She shared that she completed high school but could not proceed to college due to a lack of school fees.
“My mother is a single parent who did her best to ensure I went through primary and secondary school. College fees are a lot, and she cannot manage on her own. I have to work to help out at home,” she said.
The young woman revealed that life has not been easy for them, and at times they go hungry or survive on just one meal a day.
“Sometimes we are forced to have one meal a day when there is no money, but I am hopeful things will someday be okay,” she said.

What type of job does Mombasa lady want?
Najma also expressed her desire to get a better job with improved pay so that she can better support her struggling mother.
“I am willing to do any job. I’m grateful for what I have at the moment but would love to explore better opportunities if they present themselves,” she said.
The 20-year-old added that as much as she would love to further her education, securing a job is currently her top priority due to her family's situation.
“I haven’t gone to college, but I can work as a waitress, supermarket attendant, receptionist, I can do housekeeping, just any job available,” noted Najma.
She said she has also been trying content creation on TikTok, but only when she is free and not selling SIM cards.
Where did needy MKU graduate get employed?
Previously, TUKO.co.ke reported that a young woman who graduated from Mount Kenya University (MKU) secured a job at her dream school.
Sharon Bundi had appealed for help in December 2024 to raise funds to facilitate her Teachers Service Commission (TSC) number application.
Months later, she reported that she had successfully obtained the TSC number and secured employment at Cambridge International School.
