Dennis Kimweli succumbed to injuries sustained on Monday, July 7, during the nationwide Saba Saba Day protests.

The 24-year-old was shot on that chaotic day as Kenyans united countrywide to commemorate the 1990 protests.

He was shot as he went to close the gate of his premises in the Bulbul area, as revealed by one of his devastated friends.

Where was Kimweli taken after being shot?

"When he heard the gunshots outside his workplace, he decided to close the gate for safety and to prevent the protesters from entering the workstation. He was protecting his business. Unfortunately, as he was closing the gate, he was shot and fell," Laura Winjenje narrated.

Which hospital was Dennis Kimweli rushed to?

He waited for over two hours before the ambulance arrived and ferried him to Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH).

"He phoned me, but I spoke with the nurse. I boarded a car and immediately went to see him. I confirmed that he had indeed been shot in the stomach, and we began the process of arranging for his treatment.
We were later able to take him to the theatre," said Boniface Kimweli, the deceased's brother.

The surgery was initially deemed successful, and the doctors told the family the bullet had grazed his large intestines. As a result, a stomach bag was placed on him.

When did Dennis Kimweli die?

"I asked the doctor if they had performed a CT scan, and I was told they did. But the nurse contradicted the doctor’s statement and said a CT scan had not been done because there were too many patients, so he was taken straight to the theatre. So, there's an issue there—how can someone be taken to the theatre without a CT scan?" Boniface questioned.

The Kimweli family had visited him on Tuesday and left feeling hopeful that he was on the path to recovery.

Unfortunately, they received a distressing call on Wednesday morning, July 9, from the hospital.

"I was told they lost him at around 9:51pm," Boniface revealed, heartbroken.
