"My name is Kipkoech Ruth Jebet. I want to say thank you because we have gotten justice for the loss of my dad. It is so painful that my dad was coming to school for me. It is so painful because I ended up not ever seeing my dad again," she said as she broke down in tears.

She composed herself and gave it another try, drawing strength from the people around her.

"I want to say thank you to the judge and our family lawyer for the justice we have received. Konga did something wrong to our family. We no longer have a dad. We have no one to call a dad," she said, as grief once again overwhelmed her.

She struggled to maintain her composure for a second time, prompting the journalists to move on to the next speaker, giving Ruth a moment to grieve her father.

Kimeli's brother addresses press after court ruling

The woman beside her offered a shoulder for support, sharing in her pain. She removed her spectacles and wiped away a tear as she comforted the heartbroken Ruth.

Kimeli’s brother then stepped in with energy and clarity, delivering a brief history of the events.

"At the time of his death, he was working at the Nakuru Regional Office, K9 Unit, as a sergeant. The person who killed him was his colleague. They both hail from Baringo county. We have been following this murder case, which has come to a close today with the sentencing of Konga.
"The two had worked together for a long time—from Nairobi to Nakuru. They were on a night shift when the incident happened," he explained.

Nairobi police officer shoots colleague outside nightclub
