According to the Times of India, the deceased man, identified as Tapas Das, had solemnised his marriage through court registration in Silchar.
Facing strong disapproval from his own family, the couple had chosen to stay at his maternal uncle’s house since the wedding.
Tragically, Tapas was discovered hanging in the house the following morning, police confirmed.
His maternal uncle, who was the only other person present in the home, expressed disbelief over the incident.
“I woke up and found him dead. He had not expressed any distress or shown any signs of trouble. I have no idea what drove him to this,” the uncle said.

The body was sent to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
