In an interview on Wednesday, August 6, Gachagua downplayed the importance of Deputy President Kithure Kindiki's ongoing empowerment programmes.

How much is Kithure Kindiki's salary?

Gachagua strongly questioned the source of the millions that Kindiki has been dishing out over the weekends in the name of women's empowerment.

According to Gachagua, the deputy president's official salary cannot allow him to splash such amounts weekly.

The former second in command stated that his successor has been in office for barely 10 months, yet he has donated over KSh 300 million compared to his average salary of KSh 10 million over the same period.

"Included in the budget so that there is an organised way of doing empowerment. Today, how do you explain where the deputy president is getting all this money from? His salary is known; he has been in less than 10 months, he has not earned more than KSh 10 million, and in the last few months, he has spent over KSh 300 million. This money is not in the budget. Where is it coming from?" Gachagua posed.

Is Ruto's government bribing Kenyans?

Gachagua claimed the millions being dished out by Kindiki were proceeds of corruption meant to bribe voters ahead of the 2027 General Election.

According to Gachagua, the ongoing empowerment events are simply bribery schemes to persuade Kenyans to reelect Ruto in 2027.

"These are the proceeds of corruption. These funds are being used to corrupt the morals of our people and try to bribe voters ahead of the 2027 General Election. It is all deceit; it's all a conman's game, and it has nothing to do with empowerment. It is simply bribery and a scheme to deceive the Kenyan people into having William Ruto reelected as the president," the former DP said.

How did Matiang'i criticise Kithure Kindiki?

Recently, former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i also downplayed the relevance of the ongoing empowerment programmes.

Speaking in the United States, Matiang'i said that under the Kenya Kwanza administration, the country is drowning in poor governance and leadership gimmicks.

Matiang’i criticised Kindiki's outreach programs and the growing culture of political theatre, arguing that leaders traversing the country in convoys and helicopters to distribute small sums of money do little to address the nation's real issues.
